Individual & Family

When you apply for an individual health insurance policy your application is reviewed to determine if you are acceptable for coverage. Your medical records and use of prescription drugs are checked. This process is called underwriting. If you have health problems the insurance company can decline you. They can also issue a policy with an extra charge due to your health condition or one which excludes coverage for a condition. If you are healthy and do not take prescription drugs the insurance company will normally give their quoted rate or sometimes a rate even lower.
Once you educate your agent on your health, budget, and the name of the doctors you would like to continue to see, she can guide you through the process and make recommendations on the companies that would best suit your needs. Your rates are determined by your health status, age, zip code and sex as well as your choices with regard to the insurance company, type of policy, coinsurance and deductible.
