If you’re thinking about having a baby, insurance may be the last thing on your mind. You can save yourself a lot of money and buy yourself some peace of mind if you take a few minutes to investigate whether you should purchase maternity insurance.
There is an extra charge for maternity on an individual or family policy. This option can be chosen when you purchase the policy or renew it (if the policy has been in effect for at least six months). It also can be added within 30 days of your marriage (a copy of your marriage certificate is required) or when you add a spouse. The maternity coverage is only available for adult females at least 18 who are not already pregnant.
